Signs It's Time for a New Roof

Apr 18, 2023

You might think that roof repairs are the primary business of roof contractors. But despite this, roof replacements are 90% of the overall roofing market in North America, according to Roofing Insights. When it's time to replace your roof, you might not know at first, but the little signs will begin to add up. Soon it will be unmistakable that your roof needs replacing, and the sooner the better. Here are some of the signs.

There Is Water Damage Upstairs

Water damage is normally confined to the basement and first floor of a building, for obvious reasons. Your roofing service will be able to determine the origin of your upstairs water damage and usually pinpoint the places where water is getting into your home from above. There are times when you'll be able to replace a small portion of the roof, but if part of it is compromised, the rest is probably in trouble.

The Gutters Are Gone

If parts of the gutters are gone, that's a bad sign. Gutters are anchored to the roof, so if they've washed away, the wood supporting them is probably rotten. A roofing service can help determine the cause of this serious damage.

The Roof Is Sagging

A sagging roof is a sign of serious trouble. If your roof sags, you probably have a leak somewhere or one is about to happen. Either way, you're going to need to replace the roof entirely.

There Are Moldy and Missing Shingles

Shingles don't normally get moldy -- the asphalt on the paper sets you up for the long term. But if they do, that's a sign that water is leaking in through the unprotected part of the shingle. Other shingles are probably missing as well.

The Cooling Bills Are Getting More Expensive

This should be an obvious one. Your roof is there to keep your house cool by deflecting most of the sunlight away. Roofing shingles also absorb and hold heat until later in the day when they're out of direct sunshine. If your roof is old and needs replacement, your cooling bills will skyrocket, as it's less heat protective.

Your new roof will make your home more efficient and drier. Your home will be more structurally sound with a new, stronger roof on the top. If you think it's time to replace your roof before serious damage happens, call us at Garcia Roofing & Exteriors.
